In August 2022, Cameroon opted for a single planning process for the construction of roads, ports, railways, and airports, in order to avoid scattered and costly projects. To this end, the Minister of Public Works (MINTP) and his counterpart in Transport signed a joint draft decree establishing the monitoring and implementation committee for the Integrated Strategy for Multimodal Transport Infrastructure in Cameroon (S2ITM). It is a tool to assist in the programming and planning of investments in the transport sector in general. Transport is a strategic sector for the dynamism of the economy and the transformation of Cameroon. This is why the issue of the performance of networks and means of transport is at the heart of development and poverty reduction concerns due to economic and social issues.

Transportation is also a key element of business competitiveness, particularly price competitiveness. Finally, transportation systems are a powerful means of structuring and developing the region.

In terms of social issues, the role of the transport sector in improving people's access to essential or basic social services is particularly important.

Finally, the transport sector is a major generator of employment. For example, urban and peri-urban travel in the country's two largest cities, Douala and Yaoundé, is provided by the informal sector, with small operators driving taxis, minibuses, and motorcycle taxis. These operators create more than 821,000 jobs and account for approximately 401,000 of the sector's output.

Transport infrastructure, particularly roads, railways, airports and ports, constitutes the foundation on which the development and competitiveness of the Cameroonian economy must be built.
