The advantages are numerous for the company: exemption from any license, authorization or limitation of quotas for export and import, possibility of opening accounts in foreign currencies, absence of restrictions on sales and purchase of foreign currencies, right to transfer profits abroad (however 25% must be reinvested in Cameroon), exemption from taxes and duties over a period of 10 years from the start of activities, taxation at an overall rate of 15% on profits from the 11th year.

The decree of May 24, 2019 reorganizes the Agency for the Promotion of Economic Zones (APZE) by aligning it with the provisions of the law of July 12, 2017 establishing the modalities for the creation and management of economic zones in Cameroon.

Cameroon is also moving forward with the establishment of two special economic zones in two cities across the country for timber processing. Two sites have been identified in Edéa and Bertoua, with the African Finance Corporation (AFC) as its technical and financial partner. These actions are in line with the commitments made by the CEMAC states, which have ratified a ban on the export of timber in log form as of January 2023.

Reference

The AFC is a regional development finance institution that counts the African Development Bank (AfDB) among its shareholders. Its goal is to address the financing gap for infrastructure and industry.

Generally considered the main industrial hub of Cameroon, Edéa is home to, among other things, a large hydroelectric power plant and a large metallurgical complex, thus reinforcing its vocation as a melting pot of raw material processing activities.

The town of Bertoua, in the Eastern region, has two industrial zones: Koumé-Bonis and Mandjou-Kano, covering 105 hectares and 120 hectares respectively. It offers several advantages to economic operators.

It should be noted that the efficient port of Kribi would like to obtain free zone status to facilitate the installation of investors.
