In the priorities for the year 2023, the ministry has the urgent need to modernize the Road Fund, with the aim of making it a structure worthy of responding to the numerous challenges concerning road maintenance.

The President of the Republic, Denis Sassou Nguesso, instructed the Government, during the Council of Ministers on February 1, 2023, to maintain agricultural and rural roads, which are essential communication routes within the country. To this end, the Government will provide additional financial assistance from the Road Fund. This public body, endowed with legal personality, is responsible for financing programs to protect the national road heritage, road prevention and safety, road network maintenance, as well as road rehabilitation and development operations. The rehabilitation of the Enyellé-Impfondo road in the Likouala department was also decided upon.

Combating poverty among the Congolese population requires restoring the transportation infrastructure needed for socioeconomic recovery and facilitating access to markets. This decision by the President of the Republic, linked to the improvement of rural roads, will help farmers ship their goods and facilitate the development of industries such as tourism and agriculture.

The government also intends to undertake urban road rehabilitation work and combat erosion in Brazzaville and Pointe-Noire in 2023. The goal is to improve urban traffic, which is plagued by erosion and potholes.

The Ministry of Regional Planning, Infrastructure and Road Maintenance also wishes to improve its internal performance and clean up the public procurement process.
